Box Score Garden City, N.Y. - The Adelphi University softball team played host to Northeast-10 division opponent in a single game on Wednesday, March 20 on Janet L. Ficke Field. The Panthers used seven strong innings from
Laurin Watts and a 3-3 performance from
Elizabeth Lindner to pick up a 3-0 win and improve to 11-6 overall, 4-0 in NE-10 play and 1-0 in the division, while Pace falls to 5-2 and 0-1.
Emily Dorko capped the day with a record setting steal in the bottom of the sixth. Dorko led the sixth off with a single to short and two batters later sprinted for second, swiping her first bag of the game and eighth of the season. The stolen base gives Dorko 93 for her career, which pushes her past Dely Francisco (92) on the all-time list after seasons of 15, 35, 35 and currently eight.
The Panthers opened the contest by loading the bases with no one out, but scored just one run in the bottom of the first on a
Courtney Sullivan sacrifice fly to left that plated Dorko. The next three innings would slip by scorelessly, until Adelphi came up again in the bottom of the fifth and again loaded the bases. This time a Lindner single to right center brought around
Katie Andrews and
Jaclyn Binstock, 3-0 Panthers.
That was more then enough run support for Watts, who improved to 8-1 with the victory. She tossed seven innings, struck out six and walked one, while giving up one hit. Her no hit bid ended in the top of the sixth on a fly ball that dropped onto the turf in center field.
Lindner led the pack at the plate, with three of Adelphi's 10 hits, she also had two rbi. Both Dorko and Andrews had two hits and scored a run. Sullivan, Binstock and Rieger accounted for the Panthers other three hits on the day.
Adelphi returns to action on Thursday, March 21 when they travel to LIU-Post for a doubleheader with first pitch scheduled for 2:30 pm.
