The Huskies would add two more runs in the bottom of the third on back-to-back one out hits, a single to right and a bunt, putting Adelphi in a 3-0 hole.
The next two innings would pass scoreless, until Adelphi pulled within one run, 3-2 in the top of the sixth. The Panthers opened the inning by loading the bases and scored the first run on a
Jaclyn Binstock fielder's choice and the second run crossed the plate when an
Amy Caird ground out to second allowed
Heather Salerno to scamper home. St. Cloud State countered with a run of their own in the bottom of the inning, following up a double with a single en route to a 4-2 win.
Katie Andrews was credited with her third loss of the season after throwing six innings and striking out two and walking two.
Emily Dorko and
Victoria Wink accounted for five of Adelphi's six hits as Dorko was 2-4 and Wink went 3-3.
Game Two
The second game was all about pitching and defense for the Panthers as
Laurin Watts collected her seventh win of the season. She tossed a complete game one hitter, striking out four and walking just two. As a team Adelphi mustered eight hits and six runs.
The Panthers got two runs in the bottom of the second and third innings to claim a 4-0 lead just three frames into play.
Jeanine Leo and Andrews scored in the bottom of the second when
Elizabeth Lindner sent a drive toward third that slipped under the third baseman. In the bottom of the third a Binstock single scored Wink and then an Andrews double brought Binstock across home, which pushed Adelphi out front 4-0.
The Huskies got a run back in the top of the fourth, but Adelphi tacked on a run in the bottom of the fifth and sixth to claim a 6-1 win. The run in the fifth came around when Lindner worked a bases loaded walk, while a
Courtney Sullivan fielder's choice brought home the run in the sixth.
Binstock and Andrews both picked up two hits and a run and RBI each, while Dorko, Salerno, Wink and Leo accounted for the rest of the Panther offense.
