Box Score Kissimmee, Florida - The Adelphi University softball team played thru some difficult weather conditions on Tuesday, March 12 to pick up a 6-3 victory over Lees-McRae College in Kissimmee, Florida. The victory gives Adelphi an overall record of 8-4 with two days of play left on the trip.
In the bottom of the first the Bobcats put runners on second and third with no outs, when a single to right center scored both base runners and gave LMC an early 2-0 lead. However, Adelphi starter
Laurin Watts would settle in from there and hold the Bobcats scoreless the rest of the way, striking out five and walking just two, collecting her fifth win of the year.
Adelphi erupted in the top of the fourth for four runs, to steal the lead from LMC, 4-2. A
Meghan Heiser single and a
Jaclyn Binstock walk gave the Panthers two players on the bast paths and a ground out brought home
Amy Caird, who pinch ran for Heiser.
Jeanine Leo followed that up with a two run home run to give Adelphi its first lead of the game, 3-2. A few batters later an
Emily Dorko double drove in
Elizabeth Lindner to give the Brown and Gold a two run cushion.
The Panthers would one run in each of the next two innings on solo home runs from Binstock and another from Leo to put Adelphi out front, 6-2 with three outs to play. LMC would get a runner on third in the bottom of the seventh and a Panther error would allow one run to score, but Watts would shut the door on the Bobcats with a strikeout, ending play.
Leo was the big bat for Adelphi, going 2-3 with three RBI and two run scored, while Dorko was 2-4 with an RBI of her own. Binstock also had a strong day at the plate, going 1-2 with two runs scored and an RBI.
Adelphi returns to action at 9:00 am on Wednesday, March 13 when they take on Wayne State in Kissimmee, Florida, followed by a 11:00 am match-up with cross-island rival LIU-Post.
