Box ScoreOrlando, Fla. - The Adelphi University women's tennis team opened its four-match Florida trip with a 7-2 loss to Northeast-10 Conference opponent St. Michael's College on Monday. The Panthers fall to 3-4 with their fourth straight setback, while the Purple Knights remain undefeated at 4-0.
St. Michael's set the tone by sweeping doubles play.
Maria Toft and
Bianca Posa surrendered an 8-5 decision at top flight singles to Emily Magee and Jean-Marie McGrath, and
Samra Redzematovic and
Michelle Gurda lost by a similar score of 8-4 at No. 2 doubles.
Joanna Haich and
Gaby Adia battled to a 9-8 score at No. 3 doubles but eventually fell 7-5 in the deciding tiebreaker.
Toft and Redzematovic emerged on top in singles play, winning at No. 1 and No. 5 singles, respectively. Toft cruised to a 6-0, 6-3 win over Magee and Redzematovic grinded through to victory by scores of 7-6 (7-5), 6-3.
The Panthers hit the courts again tomorrow against Bentley University.
