Easton, Mass. - Courtesy of two second-half goals from Giselle Ortiz, the Adelphi University women's soccer team closed out the regular season with a 3-1 road win against the Skyhawks of Stonehill College on Saturday afternoon. With the win, the Panthers improve to 11-1-4 overall and 9-1-4 in the Northeast-10, and secure the #3 seed in the Northeast-10 Conference Tournament. The Skyhawks end their season at 5-11-2 and 5-8-2 in the conference.

After 40 minutes of scoreless play, Victoria Antonino got the Panthers on the board in the closing minutes of the first half. After the Panthers gained possession off of a Stonehill turnover, Antonino took a pass from Ortiz and beat Stonehill keeper Amy Wheaton to give Adelphi a 1-0 lead.

The Panthers took their lead into halftime, and had the opportunity to add on to it early in the second half courtesy of Antonino and Ortiz. However, over the first 10 minutes of the half, Antonino recorded two shots that were both saved by Wheaton while Ortiz's effort at 57:16 hit the post.

The Skyhawks took advantage and managed to knot the score in the 60th minute, as Caroline Stone took a shot from the left side of the penalty area which beat Sam Whitney and tied the score at 1-1.

Over the next 20 minutes of action, the two squads battled for control of possession but it was Ortiz who broke the tie in the 85th minute. After a shot from Kelsey Malles hit the post, Ortiz took a follow-up shot and buried it into the top left corner of the net to give Adelphi a 2-1 lead. Ortiz and Antonino joined forces again for the insurance goal in the 89th minute as Ortiz picked up both her second goal of the game and the season while Anotnino recorded her third assist of the year.

The Panthers held a slim 17-15 lead in total shots, and out-shot the Skyhawks eight to five in the second half. The two teams were dead even in corner kicks with three apiece, while both Whitney and Wheaton recorded seven saves.
