Volleyball Blanks Assumption, 3-0

The Panthers capture their first conference win of the season with a 3-0 sweep over Assumption College

Garden City, N.Y. - The Adelphi University volleyball team hosted Northeast-10 Conference opponent Assumption College on Tuesday, October 8 in the Center for Recreation and Sports. With a 41-23 advantage in kills, the Panthers were able to pick up their first conference win 3-0 (25-23, 25-17, 25-20) over the Greyhounds. With the victory Adelphi improves to an 8-7 overall record with an even 1-1 record in conference play. The Hounds fall to 3-11 overall and 0-5 in the NE-10.

Kaitlyn DeStefano paced the offense with 11 kills on 15 attempts, giving her a .600 hitting percentage on the night. Colleen Raga and Mandy Stanislovaitis each chipped in seven kills of their own. On defense, Sierra Crook and Haley Blunt registered 11 and 10 digs, respectively.

After going point-for-point for much of the first set, a DeStefano kill would even the score at 19. A four-point run, including two kills by Raga would give Adelphi its largest lead in the game. Assumption made a small run late in the game, but the set would come to a close as Raga notched her sixth kill.

The second game would go much like the first until the score reached 19-16 in favor of the Brown and Gold. Adelphi would go on to win game two but not before two services aces by freshman Caleigh Dolese and a kill from Stanislovaitis.

After dropping the first point, the Panthers held the lead for the rest of game three. Stanislovaitis would notch her second game-point kill for the evening as Adelphi won the third set 25-20. Katie Bryson registered 25 assists in the victory, giving her over 400 on the season thus far.

Coach's Thoughts on the Game
