Kristen Bagley scored in the second overtime period to lead the Adelphi University field hockey team past St. Michael's College, 3-2, on Saturday morning. With the win, the Panthers improve to 8-8 overall and 3-5 in the NE-10, while the Purple Knights fall to 6-10 overall and 3-5 in the conference.
The Panthers struck first as
Carly Aceves tallied her third goal of the season at the 13:08 mark; Aceves fired a rebound past Purple Knights goalie Sarah Healey to give Adelphi a 1-0 lead.
However, the Purple Knights tied it up in the 26th minute as Cassaundra Davis scored her 11th goal of the year.
As time ticked down in the first half,
Olivia Nowokunski gave Adelphi a 2-1 lead as she scored her first goal of the season unassisted.
Kelly Serrao stopped a shot by Megan Deschaine with 38 seconds left in the frame to keep the Panthers in the lead at halftime.
The Panthers continued to hold a 2-1 lead until late in the second half, when Davis tallied another goal. In the 61st minute, Morgan Mazanec fired in a penalty corner and Davis beat Serrao in goal to tie the game at 2-2.
The first overtime period passed by scoreless and it appeared as though the second frame would continue in the same fashion. However, at the start of the 88th minute, Bagley received a pass from the left side that was initially interrupted by the defense and fired it past Healey to give Adelphi the 3-2 win.
The Brown and Gold held a 25-15 advantage in total shots but trailed eight to seven in penalty corners. Serrao made six saves in the win, while her counterpart Sarah Healey made nine.
