Garden City, N.Y. – Earlier this evening, the men's soccer team took on the Golden Knights of the College of St. Rose in a Northest-10 Conference contest. Despite a scoreless opening half, the Panthers came out firing on all cylinders in the second and unleashed three unanswered goals while holding St. Rose scoreless. The 3-0 victory pushes them back to .500 with a 4-4 overall record and a 3-3 NE-10 mark while the visitors slip to 3-5, 1-4 NE-10.
 
In an evenly contested first half, the Panthers had a slim 6-7 shooting margin, but both sides ramped up their opportunities in the latter stages of the opening act. The Golden Knight's Uros Antic threatened in the 42^nd minute when he came dangerously close to putting St. Rose ahead, but his attempt was redirected off of the hands of a diving Ahmad Salamah who made the athletic save.
 
The Panthers responded with a close call of their own on the ensuing possession. A move by senior Juan Aguiar to break a St. Rose defender created space allowing him to send a rocket toward the goal that sailed passed Colan Balkwell but missed the net by inches and deflected off of the post back into play.
 
Caelan Hueber opened up the scoring in the 48^th minute. A pass from Aguiar made its way through a trio of black jerseys and found a waiting Hueber who netted his second goal of the season, giving Adelphi the 1-0, go-ahead goal.
 
In the 68^th minute, the duo of Aguiar and Will Rezin connected for the Panther's second goal. Rezin's initial shot deflected off of the goal post, but Aguiar found himself in the right place at the right time. The ball rebounded right to his feet and he found the back of the net for his fourth goal of the season and gave the Panthers the 2-0 advantage.
 
Streaking down the left side in the latter stage of the game, senior captain Nicholas Costa lobbed a cross to the middle of the field where Alejandro Penzini finished with a textbook header for the third and final goal of the game.
 
Adelphi registered 16 total shots compared to the visitor's 12. They also had a 5-2 advantage on corner kicks. Salamah was credited with two saves, both of which squashed the only real threats posed by St. Rose while his counterpart, Balkwell made three stops.
 
Coach's Thoughts on the Game
"Every match in the Northeast-10 is a grudge match," stated Head Coach Carlo Acquista. "Everyone is trying to finish for a playoff berth. Credit to my guys in the second half; we really turned it on and took it to a well-coached team. I will keep challenging my guys to finish the matches strong."
