Box Score Easton, Mass. - The Adelphi University field hockey team suffered a 3-0 loss at Stonehill College on Saturday afternoon. Ranked fourth in this week's Penn Monto/National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) Division II poll, the Skyhawks improve to a 12-0 overall record, and remain perfect at 5-0 in the Northeast-10. With the loss, the Panthers fall to 6-6 overall and 1-3 in the conference.
Adelphi could not break the barrier set by Stonehill goalkeeper Elizabeth Genovese, who recorded her second career shutout. Genovese and her defense held the Black and Gold to just six shots on goal and twelve shots overall.
Molly Cuevas and
Jami DeGrote each registered two shots on goal, but were unable to find the back of the cage.
Brittany Souke and
Mary Plotas each fired an attempt, as Genovese registered five saves in the victory.
For the hosts, Erika Kelly added another program record to her season as she led Stonehill to the win with a pair of goals, giving her a school-record 49 points this season. Kelly is also currently first in the Northeast-10 with goals scored, with 24.
Despite the loss, sophomore goalkeeper
Kelly Serrao registered seven saves which moves her to fourth in the conference, with 72.
Coach's Thoughts on the Game
"We knew this was going to be a tough game, since Stonehill was undefeated," said Head Coach
Gloria O'Connor. "The girls need to learn from the loss and prepare for the second half of NE-10 play."
