Volleyball Set to Compete in UAA SpringHill Suites Invitational

The Panthers will take on Dixie State, Western New Mexico and Alaska Anchorage.

Anchorage, AK - The Adelphi University volleyball team traveled across the country this week to participate in the University of Alaska Anchorage SpringHill Suites Invitational in Anchorage, Alaska. Adelphi will open competition on Friday against Dixie State at 1:00 pm, followed by a 7:00 pm match-up with the host Seawolves and a Saturday contest with Western New Mexico.

The Panthers are coming into the tournament with a 3-1 overall record, thanks to victories over Holy Family, LIU-Post and Slippery Rock at the Millersville Tournament last weekend. This will be Adelphi's first meeting against all three teams that they will face this weekend and the Seawolves are the reigning tournament champions, having won the last edition in 2009. The Brown and Gold posted a record of 23-9 overall in 2011 and advanced to the NCAA East Regional Semifinal for the second season in a row.

Alaska Anchorage comes into the weekend having gone 1-3 at the Otter Classic last weekend in California. Their lone win of the weekend was over the Academy of Art and the three losses were courtesy of Minnesota State, San Francisco State and Cal-State Monterey Bay. In 2011 the Seawolves posted their fourth straight winning season and made a third straight trip to the NCAA Tournament.

Dixie State hails from Utah, the NCAA West Region competitor will open its 2012 campaign this weekend. Last fall Dixie State posted a record of 13-11 overall and were an even 8-8 in Pacific West Conference action. Western New Mexico kicked off the season last weekend at the Grand Canyon tournament and came away empty, posting a record of 0-4 with losses to Central Washington, UC San Diego, Cal State San Bernardino and Cal-Poly Pomona. Western New Mexico posted a record of 17-12 overall and fell in the second round of the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference tournament.

All four teams will face off in round robin pool play over two days with the top two performers meeting in the Championship game at 7:00 pm on Saturday. Live stats and video will be provided through the Alaska Anchorage websitea and can be found by clicking here.
