Box Score
Garden City, N.Y. - The Adelphi University field hockey team lost its fourth consecutive one-goal decision, dropping a 3-2 non-conference contest against Stonehill College on Motamed Field on Wednesday. The Panthers now stand at 0-6 and the Skyhawks improve to 3-2.
Adelphi senior
Cassie Cabral tallied two goals to push her team-leading total to four on the season, and freshman
Molly Cuevas assisted on both markers. For Stonehill, Chelsea Fizell, Devin Ingersoll and Jennifer Foley each found the back of the cage, while Kelsey Davis picked up a pair of helpers.
The visitors attacked first with Fizell registering her first goal of the season at the 5:13 mark. Ingersoll widened the gap, knocking in a goal off a penalty corner deflection 15 minutes into the first half.
The Panthers kept the Stonehill offense at bay the rest of the first period, but Foley promptly made it a 3-0 game just 1:09 into the second half, pushing her own rebound past goalie
Kelly Serrao and diving defender
Briana Rubenstein.
Cabral got Adelphi on the board when she bounced in a goal with 20 minutes to play, and mounted a late rally with another score with just under five minutes to play. The visitors held on, however, and denied the Panthers their first win of the season.
Serrao made 10 saves in her first collegiate start, while Stonehill goalie Kaitlyn Curtis made three saves.
The Panthers return to action on Saturday when they travel to fourth-ranked UMass Lowell for a non-league game at 1 p.m.
