Box Score Bloomsburg, N.J. - Despite a record-setting effort by senior goalie
Kristine Puzio, the Adelphi University field hockey team fell to second-ranked Bloomsburg University 3-1 in the Panthers' season opener on Thursday. The Panthers move to 0-1 with the loss, while the Huskies are now 1-0.
Puzio set an Adelphi single game record by making 19 saves against last year's NCAA Semifinalist, shattering the previous mark of 14 set by
Lucia Vigliotti against the Huskies on Sep. 1, 2011. The senior keeper held Bloomsburg scoreless in the first half, but goals by Brooke Simonovich, Brittany Mathews and Jenna DiSabatino gave the Huskies their 10th consecutive season-opening win.
Senior
Cassie Cabral scored the lone goal for the Panthers, potting a goal off a pass from
Molly Cuevas to make it a 2-1 game with just under 10 minutes to play. DiSabatino registered an insurance goal three minutes later, however, and the Huskies clutched to their two-goal advantage the rest of the way.
The Panthers return to action on Saturday for a non-conference contest at East Stroudsburg University at 1 p.m.
