Old Brookville, N.Y. - The Adelphi University softball team returned to Old Brookville, New York on Saturday, May 5 to face #3 C.W. Post in a NCAA Regional elimination game. The Panthers topped the Pioneers, 3-0 to set up a meeting with #2 Molloy and came up just one run short of the Regional Final, falling 3-2. Adelphi vs. C.W. Post
Both teams were scoreless through the first three and a half innings until the fourth when
Emily Dorko reached with a lead-off single back to the pitcher and was driven home when
Meghan Heiser hit a blast over the left field wall, putting Adelphi up 2-0.
The Panthers added another run in the bottom of the fifth when the Pioneer third baseman had trouble with a Dorko hit, allowing left fielder Amy Ogden to score on the infield throwing error.
Devon Kelly went the distance for Adelphi, giving up five-hits in the shutout win and adding four strikeouts to earn her 16th win. Ogden led the offense, going 2-2 with a run scored, while Heiser was 1-2 with two RBI and Dorko and
Amanda Krier also chipped in hits.
Adelphi vs. Molloy
Molloy got off to a quick start as Nicolette Sinagra hit a three-run homerun in the first inning, quickly giving the Lions a three-run cushion. However, the Panther pitching staff would regroup and shut down the Lion offense the rest of the way.
Adelphi made it a one-run game in the third, as freshman Victoria Wink sent a two-run shot over the left field fence, scoring teammate Jeanine Leo, pulling Adelphi within just one run, 3-2.
Hits would be hard to come by the rest of the way and the game would end with Molloy on top, 3-2. Watts was credited with the loss, throwing four innings, allowing five hits and striking out three, while Katie Andrews tossed three innings of flawless relief, striking out two.
The Panthers were held to just two hits in the game and Wink's two run home run and a Krier hit accounted for both.
