Old Brookville, N.Y. - The Adelphi University softball team returned to NCAA Regional action for the first time in four years on Friday, May 4, taking on #2 Molloy College in the first round at LIU-C.W. Post. The Panthers got a strong pitching performance from Devon Kelly and solid defense, but fell to the Lions, 2-0. With the loss Adelphi falls to 34-19-1 overall, while Molloy improves to 43-10.

The Panthers will return to action on Saturday, May 5 at 1:30 pm, when they take on #3 C.W. Post, who lost to #6 Dominican College in 12 innings. Molloy will face-off against Dominican in the 11 am game, with the winner advancing to the East Regional 2 final.

After a scoreless first inning, the Lions put runners on second and third with two outs and the ball slipped out of Kelly's hand on delivery, allowing a Molloy runner to scamper home from third, 1-0 Lions. Adelphi got a single down the line from Meghan Heiser in the fourth, and Amy Ogden pinch ran, stealing second but would get no further as a pop up ended the inning and the threat.

Molloy tacked on a second run in the fifth with a one out home run over the left field wall, but the final two batters of the inning were set down no problem. The Panthers attempted rallies in the sixth and the seventh, but stranded runners on second in the sixth and first in the seventh, falling 2-0.

Kelly was credited with the loss and is 15-8 on the season, going six innings, striking out three, walking two and giving up just seven hits. Adelphi managed four hits in the loss, courtesy of Emily Dorko, Heiser, Jaclyn Binstock and Jeanine Leo and both Dorko and Ogden picked up steals.
