Men's Lacrosse Takes Home Five All-American Awards

The Panthers tied Limestone and Le Moyne for the most awards.

Joe Vitale, First-Team All-American
Garden City, N.Y. – Earlier today, the United States Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association (USILA) has announced the list of Division II All-American winners. Adelphi had representation from five players which is tied for the most with Le Moyne and Limestone.

Joe Vitale was the lone Panther on the First-Team while Kevin Kennedy and Jeff Melsopp garnered Second-Team kudos and Danny Blau and Greg Puskuldjian were Honorable Mentions.

Vitale earned his second straight First-Team All-American nod behind a 66 point season on 39 goals and 27 assists; all three marks led the team. Additionally, he had five game winning goals, six man up goals and scooped up 30 ground balls. Vitale was also named a Northeast-10 First-Team All-Conference selection.

Kevin Kennedy

Kennedy was named a Second-Team honoree at long stick midfield. He scored 12 goals and had six assists for 18 points on the year. He was second on the team in ground balls and caused turnovers with 48 and 14 respectively. Kennedy was named to the NE-10 All-Conference First-Team earlier this year.

Melsopp, a NE-10 First-Team All-Conference selection, joins Kennedy with inclusion to the All-American Second-Team as a defender. The 6-2 junior compiled seven points to go along with his 36 ground balls and team leading 16 ground balls.

Blau earned an Honorable Mention nod at attack. During the 2012 campaign, the Farmingdale, N.Y. native was second on the team in goals, assists and points with 22, 22 and 44 respectively. Additionally, he was a Second-Team All-American in 2011.

Puskuldjian rounds out the Panther contingent with an Honorable Mention. The specialist posted a .707 faceoff percentage and won 145-205 face offs. Additionally, he added six goals and five assists and led the team in ground balls with 79.
