Box Score 2 Lakewood, NJ - The Adelphi University softball team traveled to Lakewood, New Jersey on Thursday, April 12 for a 3:00 pm meeting with the CACC's Georgian Court University. The Panthers managed four runs in game one, but it was not enough as they fell, 8-4. However, Adelphi erupted for 11 runs in game two, ending the game in six innings, 11-2. With the split Adelphi is currently 24-15-1 overall, while Georgian Court is 28-16.
Game One
The first couple of innings started slow, with Georgian Court taking a, 1-0 lead on a sacrifice RBI in the bottom of the first. However, the Lions started to really come alive in the bottom of the third, tacking on two more runs on a home run to left field, 3-0.
The Panthers finally got on the board in the top of the fifth, when a
Victoria Wink single to left field scored
Heather Salerno, making it a 3-1 game. Unfortunately, the Lions countered with a five run outing in the bottom of the inning, that included a grand slam to left field, 8-1 Georgian Court.
But, Adelphi would not quit, scoring two runs of their own in the top of the sixth. The first run was plated by
Jaclyn Binstock, who used a single to center field to bring home
Amanda Krier. Binstock scored the second run herself, when she took advantage of a Lion error to cross the plate, 8-3. The Panthers kept Georgian Court off the board in the bottom of the sixth, but could muster just one run in the seventh, falling 8-4.
Devon Kelly took the loss, throwing three innings, giving up five hits and three earned runs.
Natalie Camarda threw 2.1 innings, striking out two and allowing five runs, including four earned, while
Katie Andrews closed out the game with one strikeout in 0.2 innings pitched.
Offensively, Wink set the standard, going 2-4 with an RBI and run scored, while Krier was 1-2 with an RBI and a run scored. Binstock also had a run scored an an RBI, going 1-3 and
Jeanine Leo was 1-2.
Game Two
Adelphi came out swinging in game two, scoring two runs in the first inning.
Emily Dorko scored the first run on a Georgian Court miscue and Binstock drove in her second run of the afternoon with a single to left that scored Krier, 2-0. The Panthers tacked on two more runs in the second on a Wink ground out that brought home Salerno and a
Meghan Heiser single that plated Leo, 4-0.
The Brown and Gold kept the pressure on with another run in the third, courtesy of
Kayla Rieger's ground out, that allowed Binstock to scamper home from third, 5-0. Adelphi was kept silent in the fourth, but put six runs on the board in the fifth to blow the game open and make it 11-0 after four and a half innings of play. The Lions managed to respond with two runs in the bottom of the fifth, but it was not enough, giving Adelphi the 11-2 win.
Katie Andrews improved to 6-2 with the five inning six hit, two run, two strikeout performance. Leo led the offense, going 1-2 with two runs scored and two RBI, while Wink was 1-3 with two RBI. Krier scored two runs in the win, despite not registering a hit, while Binstock was 1-3 with two runs scored and an RBI.
Adelphi returns to action on Saturday, April 14 when they play host to Northeast-10 rival Franklin Pierce University at noon on Janet L. Ficke Field.
