Box Score 2 The Adelphi University softball team pushed their win streak to four games with victories over Caldwell College, 3-0 and Shippensburg University, 6-2 on Wednesday, March 14 in Kissimmee, Florida. With the sweep, the Panthers improved to 6-3-1 overall on the season.
Adelphi vs. Caldwell
The Panthers got things going offensively in the second inning when
Elizabeth Lindner smacked a double to left and advanced to third on a bobble by the Cougar outfielder.
Meghan Heiser then stroked a long single to left, bringing home Linder and giving Adelphi an early 1-0 lead.
An inning later the Brown and Gold added two more runs, as
Victoria Wink opened the bottom of the third with a drive to center field that left her standing on second. One batter later
Emily Dorko singled to short and then
Jeanine Leo worked a two out walk to load the bases for
Amanda Krier, who sent the ball into deep right center for a single, that plated both Wink and Dorko to push the Panther advantage to, 3-0.
Those were the only three runs that Adelphi would get, but more then enough for
Devon Kelly, who threw a seven inning complete game, striking out two, walking two and allowing just five hits to run her record to 3-1.
Offensively, Dorko, Lindner and Kier were all 2-3, Dorko and Lindner with a run scored each and Kier with two RBI. Wink was also 1-2 with a run scored, while Heiser was 1-3 with an RBI.
Adelphi vs. Shippensburg
Dorko led off the game with a walk and moved to third on a
Heather Salerno bunt, that resulted in runners on second and third with no outs to start the contest.
Jeanine Leo hit a sacrifice fly that brought Dorko around and one batter later Krier brought home Salerno with a bunt, giving Adelphi an early 2-0 lead.
Shippensburg halved Adelphi's lead in the bottom of the inning, taking advantage of a lead-off single and single to right, making the count, 2-1 after one. In the bottom of the third Shippensburg tied the game with a walk and then a one out single to center, 2-2.
In the top of the fourth Adelphi re-took the lead on a
Kayla Rieger single back to the pitcher that plated Wink, who was pinch running for Heiser, giving the Brown and Gold a one run cushion, 3-2.
The Panthers netted their fourth run in the top of the sixth, putting the pressure on Shippensburg with two out singles from Dorko and Salerno, giving Adelphi base runners on second and third after both runners stole. Dorko then scored on a passed ball to give the Panthers some breathing room, 4-2.
Adelphi all but, put the game out of reach with two more runs in the top of the seventh on back-to-back doubles from Lindner and Heiser that scored Krier and Lindner, making the count 6-2.
Katie Andrews and
Laurin Watts combined to toss seven innings of two run softball. Andrews was credited with the win, throwing three innings, striking out two and giving up two runs, while Watts earned the save with four scoreless innings of relief, allowing three hits and striking out one.
Andrews also helped her cause at the plate, going 2-2, while Rieger was 2-3 with an RBI. Dorko also had another good game, going 1-2 with two runs scored and a walk.
