St. Charles, Mo – Earlier this afternoon, the men's lacrosse team took on the Penguins of Dominican University of California in a non-conference matchup on the campus of Lindenwood University. After a slow first period, the Panthers picked up the pace and scored six second quarter goals to go up 7-4 at the half. The stickmen doubled their goals in the final two quarters while holding the Penguins to five and came out on top by a final score of 14-9. With the win, Gordon Purdie and his squad advance to 3-0 while Dominican moves to 4-2.
 
Michael Rossi was the lead point man for the Brown and Gold, scoring two goals and dishing out three assists. Danny Blau was close behind with four points on two goals and two assists while Joe Celano found the back of the cage on three occasions. Greg Puskuldjian was 19-22 on face offs and picked up 11 ground balls while Kevin Kennedy picked up seven, scored one goal and had as many assists. Overall, Adelphi had nine different men score on the afternoon.
 
Cage minder Eric Janssen played all 60 minutes, made six saves and picked up one ground ball in his third win of the season.
 
For the Penguins, Jake Fritz and Upson Reed accounted for six goals, each tallying three while Jake Bernstein, Cam Evangelho and Emmett Faricy chipped in with one goal apiece. Dylan Acevedo picked up three ground balls while net minder Sean Donohue made 11 saves in the loss to go along with a team high seven ground ball pickups.
 
Fritz made the first move of the period on an unassisted goal at the 13:41 mark to give Dominican the early lead. Upson then followed his teammate and scored back-to-back goals within 4:11 of each other, putting Adelphi in a 3-0 hole. Before the end of the first 15 minutes, Celano got the Panthers on the board with an unassisted goal to make it a 3-1 game.
 
After no action in the first 5:48 of the second, Evangelho broke the silence and put the Dominican lead back to three goals. However, it was short lived. In a span of 18 seconds, the efforts of Celano, Blau and Kennedy, essentially scoring within moments of the faceoff, evened the slate at four. It was the start of six straight second period goals as Vitale, Quednau and Wynn capped the run to give their team a 7-4 lead heading into halftime.
 
Dominican's Fritz and Bernstein made it a one point game at 7-6, but the Panthers again went on to score six unanswered goals. The first three were by Jamie McAndrew, Rossi and Celano, all in the third. Capping the streak and beginning the fourth, Rossie Blau and Quednau each joined in, furthering the lead to 13-6.
 
Upson, Fritz and Faricy rounded out the scoring with Nick Olson sneaking a goal in between the three Dominican scores. When all was said and done, the Brown and Gold closed the curtains on the 60 minute act with a final score of 14-9.
 
The Panthers are back in action tomorrow, March 12 when they play visitor to Lindenwood University at 7:00 pm (Central Standard Time).
