Rindge, N.H. - The Adelphi University volleyball team fell in four sets (25-21, 22-25, 23-25, 21-25) at Franklin Pierce University in Northeast-10 Conference action on Friday night. Despite taking the first set, the Panthers surrendered the next three sets by tight scores to move to 18-10 overall and 9-2 in the NE-10. With the win, the Ravens improve to 16-13 and 9-3 in league play.

Kaitlyn DeStefano led all players with 14 kills and paced a trio of Panthers with double-digit kills. Samantha Rico and Haley Blunt recorded 11 and 10 kills, respectively, while Katie Bryson handed out a match-high 50 assists. Bianca Hernandez recorded 19 digs, followed closely by Chelsea Overholt and Alexandra Kahen who each earned 10 digs.

For Franklin Pierce, Katie Jackson led her squad with 13 kills, while Natasha Ray had 12 and Catie Swiderski finished with 11. Stephanie Svorinic dished out 45 assists, and Lauren Miller's 14 digs led a group of four Ravens in double-digits.

A tightly-contested first set ended in favor of the Panthers, who clung tight to what fluctuated between a one- and three-point lead for most of the set. Adelphi hit an authoritative .300 during the set but extended its lead beyond a single point just twice until going up three (20-18) and gradually pulling away to a 25-21 win. Three late errors by the Ravens put Adelphi in position to seal the set, which DeStefano promptly did with a kill assisted by Hernandez.

The second set resembled the first in its even play, seeing the squads duel to a 21-21 tie. The Panthers would get just one more point on a Franklin Pierce service error, however, and Ray put the finishing touches on the set to tie things up at 1-1.

In similar fashion, a 21-21 deadlock in set three saw the teams wrestle for the final points. The Ravens pulled ahead 24-21 on a kill, an ace and an attack error, but an Adelphi timeout stifled the hosts' momentum. After play resumed, Overholt and Bryson posted back-to-back kills to creep within a point, but Swiderski's kill officially pushed Franklin Pierce in front 2-1.

The Ravens went up early in the fourth set, working a 6-2 lead, but Adelphi quickly turned the tides and marched out to a 13-11 advantage on consecutive attack errors and a Dorko kill. The visitors relinquished the lead as quickly as they seized it, however, and the Ravens scored four unanswered points to take a lead that they would never give back. The Panthers managed to tie the set at 18-18 on a Blunt kill, but Franklin Pierce secured seven of the final 10 points to come out on top 3-1.

The Panthers return to action tomorrow at Southern New Hampshire University at 1 p.m.
