Joplin, MO – Earlier this afternoon, the cross country teams competed at the NCAA Division II Cross Country Championships on the campus of host Missouri Southern State University. Andrew Coelho represented the men with a 30th place individual finish while the women's team placed 26th in the field of 32.

Coelho capped his collegiate cross country career in style with a 30th place showing to earn his second All-American honor. The Wantagh, N.Y. native covered the first 5k in 14:47 and was in 45th at the time. However, he slowly moved up over the second half of the race, picking off 15 runners and clocked in at a time of 30:10.

“Drew ran a great race,” stated Rees of her male runner. “He ran smart. His first 5k was fast and he was sitting in cluster of other runners in around 45-50th place. But he kept calm, ran hard and picked off a lot of guys and finished the race strong. I'm very proud of the way he closed his senior year.”

Only 2.4 seconds separated him and 20th place. Coelho was the fourth runner from the East Region and the fourth runner from the Northeast-10 Conference to finish the race. Micah Chelimo of Alaska Anchorage was the overall winner with a time of 28:56 while Adams State won the overall team title with 34 points.

On the women's side, the Panthers tallied 741 points to finish in 26th place overall. As she led all year, today was no different; junior Elizabeth Eickelberg was the top Adelphi finisher. The Leonia, NJ native covered the 6k course in 22:36 and placed 127th overall.

Jacqueline Kaste was the second Panther harrier to break the tape. Her time of 22:49 earned her a 156th place overall finish. Freshman Kristina Coiro had a breakout race and was the Brown and Gold's number three runner today after being number five all year. She set a personal best by nearly 30 seconds, picked up over 20 spots from the first half to the second half and came in 178th overall with a time of 23:02.

Jennifer McNally and Larissa Melendez rounded out the top-five. McNally checked in at 197th with a time of 23:22 while Melendez was just eight seconds back in 200th. Senior Katie Hundertmark and freshman Lindsey McLaughlin put the finishing touches on the Panther contingent with Hundertmark running 24:01 for 221st overall while McLaughlin crossed the finish in 25:01 for a 239th overall showing.

Grand Valley State edged out Augustana (SD) and Adams State in a tight race for first by three and eight points respectively while Alicia Nelson of Adams State was the overall victor of the race in 20:03.

“I couldn't be happier with how the girls ran today and the results we achieved,” exclaimed Rees of her squad. “We came in ranked 29th and finished in 26th, so it was a good day for us. I think they all ran exceptionally well for their first national competition. This year was a learning experience and we're already looking forward to next year. Today was a great day for Adelphi cross country.”

The Panthers close the books on their 2012 season and will take two weeks off before beginning indoor track.
