Box Score

Garden City, N.Y. – Earlier this afternoon, the volleyball team hosted Stonehill College in a Northeast-10 Conference contest at the Center for Recreation and Sport. After taking the first set, the Panthers rolled through the next two in a hard fought, three set victory. With the win, Adelphi advances to 18-9, 9-1 NE-10 while the Skyhawks move to 12-12, 6-6 NE-10.

The first game was a back and forth affair, highlighted by eight ties at the 15-15 point. A kill by Haley Blunt on a Bryson set sparked a devastating 10-1 run that was capped with an attack error by Stonehill's Sydney Maxey that allowed the Panthers to take the first set by a score of 25-16.

In the second, Adelphi got on the board first, courtesy of Blunt kill to take the early lead and would stay ahead through the set. However, Stonehill stuck around, pulling even with Adelphi on nine occasions. They tied it at 22-22 on a service ace by Mary Nelson, forcing the Panthers to take a timeout. Out of the huddle, Nelson had a service error to allow the Brown and Gold to go ahead 23-22. After a Stonehill timeout, a Dorko kill and Skyhawk error by Kirsten Arvidson gave Adelphi the push they needed to secure the 25-23 win.

In yet another tightly contested third set, it was the visitors who posed a threat, taking a 12-9 lead, forcing the Panthers to rethink their strategy. Adelphi rallied with a 10-1 run on the backing of three kills by Dorko. However, Stonehill would not go quietly, tying the game at 25 a piece on a kill from Meaghan Lee.  Back to back kills by Katie Bryson and Samantha Rico closed the books on a 27-25 Panther victory.

Chelsea Overholt led the Panther attack with nine kills and had support from Dorko, Rico and Kaitlyn DeStefano, each of whom had eight kills. Bryson had a game high of 35 kills while Bianca Hernandez followed suit with another game high in digs with 12.

Adelphi returns to action on Wednesday, October 31 when they hit the road for a  non-conference game against the Purple Knights of the University of Bridgeport at 7pm.
