Syracuse, N.Y. - The women's soccer team visited the Dolphins of Le Moyne College in a Northeast-10 matchup earlier today. Adelphi jumped ahead early on and tacked on an insurance goal in the 64th minute while keeping the Dolphins scoreless and grabbing the victory, 2-0. With the win, the Panthers move to 4-3, 3-3 NE-10 while Le Moyne drops to 3-5, 2-5, NE-10.
Emily Masiello wasted no time putting her team up early on as the junior sailed a shot from 22 yards out, beating Dolphin keeper, Felicia Tynan, and hitting the top right shelf for her first goal of the season. In the half, the Panthers outshot the Dolphins nine to three and had two corner kicks compared to Le Moyne's one.
In the second half, at the 49:17 mark, senior
Kim Volinski had an opportunity to put Le Moyne further in the hole, but her shot narrowly missed the goal, hitting the crossbar. Masiello picked up the loose ball and in an effort to score her second goal, shot it just high of the net.
At 63:27, Volinski sent a pass in to freshman
Michelle Hennessy who was eight yards out and fired a shot that caught the inside left post and banked into the goal, putting the Panthers up, 2-0.
Adelphi's defense held Le Moyne to just five shots all game while the offense managed to get off 15. Panther keeper,
Sam Whitney made two saves in the win and moves her record to 3-2.
Adelphi is back in action on Saturday, October 1 when they host the Falcons of Bentley University at 2pm at Motamed Field in a conference contest.
