Garden City, N.Y. – The women's soccer team played host to the #9 Golden Knights of St. Rose College earlier tonight at Motamed Field. Adelphi's offense struggled to create scoring opportunities and was kept scoreless while their defense was kept busy throughout the game, giving up three goals. With the loss, the Panthers fall to 3-3, 3-2 NE-10 while the Golden Knights improve to 7-0-1, 5-0-1 NE-10.
St. Rose jumped out ahead in the 21st minute when Brittany Barry picked up a deflected shot and tapped it over to teammate Carmelina Puopolo who fired a shot past Panther keeper,
Sam Whitney to make it a 1-0 game.
Less than six minutes later, Sydney Bond sent a pass in to Barry who got around an Adelphi defender and kicked a low shot across to the left side of the net, banking it in off of the right side of the post to set the Panthers back two goals to none heading into the half.
In the second half, after being held shotless in the first, the Panthers had an opportunity to get back in the game when St. Rose committed a foul just outside the box.
Kaitlin Monteith took the free kick from 18 yards out and sailed it just high of the net.
However, St. Rose furthered their lead in the 67th minute. Bond dribbled down the left side from midfield and fired a tough shot into the top right corner of the net, extending the Golden Knight lead to three, which is how the score would end at the conclusion of 90 minutes.
Freshman keeper
Sam Whitney made seven saves in the loss.
The Panther's next game will be on Saturday, September 24 when they travel to Syracuse, New York to take on the Dolphins of Le Moyne College. The contest is scheduled for a 12 pm start.
