Volleyball Blanks Assumption and Dominican

The Panthers topped both NE-10 rival Assumption and regional foe Dominican, 3-0.

The Adelphi University volleyball team played host to both Assumption College and Dominican College on Saturday, September 17. Adelphi took care of Assumption, 25-11, 25-12 and 26-24 in game one and followed that up with victories of 25-18, 25-16 and 25-18 to complete the sweep. With the double dip of the win column the Panthers improve to 5-3 overall and open up Northeast-10 play at 1-0.

Kaitlyn DeStefano led the offense against Assumption with nine kills, while Haley Blunt chipped in five and three others played had four. Erika Loomer contributed 30 assists to the win and Bianca Hernandez led all players with 14 digs, while Bree Popham added 11.

Game one was all Adelphi, as the Panthers used an attack percentage of .346 and 11 kills to take a 25-11 win. The second game was more of the same, as Assumption continued to struggle offensively, picking up just two kills to Adelphi's 10 in a 25-12 loss. However, the third game was a back and forth battle, with Adelphi eventually coming out on top, 26-24, courtesy of 15 kills.

Chelsea Overholt led the Adelphi attack against Dominican with 13 kills and was joined by Emily Dorko and Kaitlyn DeStefano, who had eight each. Katie Bryson stepped in as setter and produced 35 assists, while Popham had 11 digs and was aided by Hernandez with nine and Overholt with eight.

Adelphi trailed at the start of the first two games, but rallied both times to pick up victories of 25-18 and 25-16. The Panther offense out produced the Chargers in all three games, 14-6, 15-4 and 13-5 as the Brown and Gold picked up the victory with a 25-18 triumph in the third and final game.

The Panthers will return to action on Tuesday, September 20 when they play host to local rival Molloy College at 7:00 pm in the Center for Recreation and Sports.
