Garden City, N.Y. – Earlier tonight, the women's soccer team hosted the Yellow Jackets of American International College in a conference matchup. Adelphi scored a goal in each of the halves while keeping AIC scoreless through 90 minutes of play. With the win, the Panthers move to 2-2, 1-2 NE-10 while the Yellow Jackets drop to 2-3, 2-1 NE-10.

At 26:28, AIC threatened when Bonnie Boornazian sent a cross to Sarah Boornazian who tapped it over keeper, Sam Whitney, but was called off due to offsides. The Panthers had their own opportunity at 23:13 when a deflected pass landed in the possession of forward Emily Masiello who shot it high of the net.

With just over 17 minutes to go in the half, Masiello dribbled down the right side, veered toward the middle and tapped a pass over to teammate Kaitlin Monteith who sent a shot past a diving Amber Swanson to net her first goal of the season and give Adelphi a 1-0 lead.

In the second half, the Panthers tacked on their second goal less than two minutes in, courtesy of a pass by Michelle Hennessy to Monteith who scored her second goal of the game, giving her team a two goal cushion.

Adelphi remained in control for the remainder of the game, keeping the Yellow Jackets at bay to secure the win. Whitney picked up her first win of the season and made five saves in the process.

Up next the Panthers will travel to Lowell, Massachusetts to take on the Riverhawks of UMass Lowell in a Northeast-10 matchup on Saturday, September 17. The game is scheduled for a 1:00 pm start.
