Easton, MA – The field hockey team dropped their second game of the season earlier today against the Skyhawks of Stonehill College. Adelphi headed into the second half down 1-0, evened the score at the 43 minute mark, but then gave up two unanswered goals, dropping the contest, 3-1. With the loss, the Panthers move to 4-2, 1-0 NE-10 while the Skyhawks advance to 3-3, 2-0 NE-10.

Adelphi had a tough time getting shots off as they were held to just two during the first half. Meanwhile, the Panther defense, along with goalie Lucia Vigliotti, was kept very busy and stopped seven Stonehill shots. However, the Skyhawk's Chelsea Fizell notched the go-ahead goal at the 31:04 mark, tapping the ball in the right side of the net on an Lauren Colligan assist to give her team the advantage to head into the half.

In the second half, the Panther offense came to life, tallying and matching Stonehill's 12 shots in the final 35 minutes. Adelphi got on the board less than nine minutes into the second half as Jeanette Heimerle evened the score and earned her eighth goal of the season, courtesy of a Crystal Gray assist.

Within four minutes, Stonehill's Jennifer Foley put the game out of reach when she scored back to back goals in the 57th and 61st minutes on assists from Nicole Ciccia and Devon Ingersoll. Time would eventually run out with the score reading 3-1 in favor of the Skyhawks.

Vigliotti made 11 saves in the loss while her counterpart, Elizabeth Genovese made four saves for Stonehill.

The Panthers return to action on Saturday, September 17 when they host the University of Massachusetts at Lowell in their second Northeast-10 Conference matchup. The game is slated for a 1:00 pm start on Motamed Field.
