Softball Stuns #1 Assumption, 4-0

Worcester, MA - Adelphi senior Leighann Bell pitched the Panthers past top seeded Assumption at the Northeast-10 Conference Championships on May 7 in Worcester, Massachusetts. Assumption out hit Adelphi, 9-5, but the Panthers made their hits count, with two doubles and a home run in the, 4-0 win. With the victory Adelphi improves to 29-24 and advances deeper into the double elimination tournament.

Bell and Chelsea Durso dueled for Five and a half scoreless innings, until the Panthers came up in the bottom of the sixth. Amy Ogden took advantage of an Assumption fielding error to reach first and then stole second. She was driven home by a Shay Craig triple to right and then Amanda Krier sent Craig home with a single, 2-0.

With just one out and Krier on second, Deandra Leo crushed a home run to left field, setting a new Adelphi single season home run record with 11 and putting the Panthers ahead 4-0.

That was more then enough for Bell, who won the duel with Durso, throwing a complete game, striking out two and walking one to collect her 16th win of the year. Krier led the way at the plate, going 2-2 with a run scored and an RBI, while Leo and Craig made their only hits of the day count, each were 1-3.

Adelphi will now play the winner of the Umass-Lowell/Southern Connecticut State game at 3:00 pm.
