Softball Clips the Ravens, 11-4 and 8-0

Game One/Game Two

Rindge, NH - The Adelphi University softball team traveled to Rindge, New Hampshire on Sunday, April 10 to take on Northeast-10 opponent Franklin Pierce. The Panthers scored a combined 19 runs, taking down the Ravens, 11-4 and 8-0. With the sweep Adelphi improves to 13-17 overall and 7-5 in the conference, while Franklin Pierce falls to 3-16 overall and 1-6 in the NE-10.

Game One
Adelphi got on the board in the first courtesy of a Shay Craig solo home run, but Franklin Pierce countered with two runs in the bottom of the inning to claim the early lead. The Panthers evened the score at two in the second when Maria Canino flied out right, bringing home Shannon Maloney.

The Ravens added a third run in the bottom of the second and continued to lead, 3-2. However, the Panthers scored two runs on an Amanda Krier double in the third, taking the lead for good, 4-3. Adelphi exploded for four runs in the fourth, taking advantage of a Raven miscue to score three runs and adding a fourth on another Krier double, giving the Panthers a 8-3 edge.

Adelphi added a ninth run in the fifth on a Deandra Leo home run and two more in the seventh to secure the 11-4 victory. Leighann Bell got the win with seven strong innings of work, striking out six and scattering nine hits. 3-4 with two RBI, while Emily Dorko was 2-5 with three runs scored and Craig was 2-4 with three runs scored. Heather Salerno and Leo were also 2-4.

Game Two
The Panthers put game two away early, scoring seven runs in the first three innings. Adelphi's first two runs crossed the plate on a Canino two out double, scoring Craig and Salerno. The Panthers notched three runs in the second on singles from Salerno and Craig that scored Maloney, Ogden and brought Salerno across home.

Leading, 5-0 Adelphi got two more runs off of singles from Ogden and Dorko to push their advantage to 7-0 after three innings of work. Craig capped off the run scoring for the Panthers with a lead off home run in the fourth and Katie Andrews did the rest, shutting down the Ravens to collect the, 8-0 win. Andrews threw five innings, striking out 10 and giving up just three hits. Craig was 3-3 at the plate with three RBI, while Ogden was 2-2.

Adelphi returns to action on Tuesday, April 12 when they play host to LeMoyne College at 3:00 pm in Garden City.
