Softball Trips up Tiffin, Run Down by Indianapolis

Kissimmee, FL - The Adelphi University softball team continued play at the 2011 Rebel Games in Kissimmee, Florida on Tuesday, March 15 against Indianapolis and Tiffin. the Panthers fell to Indianapolis in a close game, 3-1 and then ran by Tiffin, 6-1. With the split Adelphi is now 3-5 overall heading into the final two days of their Rebel Games schedule.

Adelphi vs. Indianapolis
The Panthers sent Leighann Bell to the mound against Indianapolis and she retired the first five batters in order, but the Greyhounds sixth batter of the game smacked a home run, giving Indianapolis a 1-0 lead. The Greyhounds took a 2-0 lead after the top of the third inning on a hard hit single up the middle.

Adelphi responded with a run of their own in the bottom of the third when Amy Ogden scored on a Shay Craig single that moved through the infield, pulling the Panthers within one. Indianapolis pushed the lead back to two runs in the top of the fourth on a single down the third base line.

Marisa Romeo would toss the final three innings for Adelphi, holding the Greyhounds scoreless and striking out one, while keeping the Panthers in the game. Adelphi would threaten in the bottom of the seventh, putting runners on second and third with one out, but could not get a run across, falling 3-1.

Ogden led the Panthers at the plate, going 3-4 with a run scored as Bell was credited with the loss, throwing four innings, giving up three runs and striking out three.

Adelphi vs. Tiffin
The Panthers got off to a hot start against Tiffin, taking a 2-0 lead after the first half inning as Shay Craig hit a bomb over the center field wall, scoring herself and Heather Salerno to give Adelphi a two run cushion. Tiffin would cut the margin in half in the bottom of the first, as their lead off hitter was brought home by a single to left.

Adelphi's first three batters in the top of the second would reach base and Katie Andrews would find her way home when Salerno was hit by a pitch, pushing the Panther margin back to two, 3-1. The score would remain that way until the top of the seventh, when Adelphi tacked on three more runs after loading the bases with no outs.

That was more then enough run support for Andrews, who collected her second win of the season thanks to seven innings of one run baseball, giving up just two hits and striking out six.

Ogden was stellar again at the plate, going 3-4 with a run scored, while Salerno was 2-3 with two runs and an RBI. Deandra Leo was 2-4 with an RBI and Craig was 1-4 with two runs and three RBI in the win.

Adelphi returns to action on Wednesday, March 16 when they take on Wisconsin-Parkside and Caldwell in Kissimmee, Florida.
