Box Score

Kissimmee, Florida - The Adelphi University softball team continued play at the 2011 Rebel Games on Sunday, March 13 in Kissimmee, Florida against regional foe Caldwell and Minnesota-Duluth. The Panthers pounded Caldwell for 10 hits in a 5-0 win, but went cold in a 7-1 loss to UMD. With the split Adelphi is now 2-4 overall.

Adelphi vs. Caldwell
Adelphi started fast against Caldwell, as two of their first hitters stroked singles, giving the Panthers runners on first and second with one out. After a line out to left, Amanda Krier single past third, loading the bases for Paige Rhodes, who sent a shot back up the middle, scoring Amy Ogden and Shay Craig, making the score 2-0 just three outs into the contest.

The two runs was more then enough for Katie Andrews, who bent but did not break, picking up her first collegiate win. Andrews tossed seven innings of scoreless softball, striking out six, while allowing five hits and walking one, she also hit two batters.

Adelphi would threaten more runs in the fifth, loading the bases again, but a force out at home put two outs on the board and Rhodes was touched out moving from first to second to end the inning.

In all the Panthers hung 10 hits on Caldwell, led by Craig who was 3-4 with a run scored, while seven other players posted a hit.

Adelphi vs. Minnesota-Duluth
The Panthers were held to just four hits against UMD, but the five errors committed in the loss that put the Panthers in a bind. Leighann Bell worked through the first three innings with a clean sheet, giving up just one hit, but ran in to some trouble in the fourth as UMD led off with two one out two singles. The Bulldogs got on the board two batters later, courtesy of another single, but Bell worked out of the jam, getting a strike out for out number three.

Things really went wrong for Adelphi in the fifth as the Panthers started the inning with three straight errors, that would turn into three run in a six run inning for UMD, putting Adelphi in a 7-0 hole. The Panthers took advantage of an error in the bottom of the fifth, putting lead off hitter Paige Rhodes on first. She was driven in two batters later by Maria Canino, but that was all Adelphi could muster in the 7-1 loss.

Offensively Canino led the way, going 2-4 with an RBI, while Deandra Leo and Amy Ogden both managed hits. Bell tossed 4.2 innings, striking out six and giving up just one earned run, while Natalie Camarda threw 2.1 innings of one run relief, striking out one and walking one.

Adelphi returns to action on Tuesday, March 15 when they continue play in the Rebel Games against Indianapolis and Tiffin.
