The Adelphi University volleyball team captured the programs first Northeast-10 title ever on Saturday, November 12 with a 3-0 victory over St. Rose and earned an automatic berth to the NCAA Division II Championship. The fourth seeded Panthers will not face #5 Stonehill College on Thursday, November 17 at 7:30 pm at the University of New Haven.
This will be the third time this season that Adelphi and Stonehill have faced off, with the Skyhawks taking the first battle on October 16, 3-0. However, the Panthers responded with a, 3-0 victory of their own in the Northeast-10 semifinals in North Easton, Massachusetts on Stonehill's home floor.
Adelphi is 7-3 all-time against Stonehill, including a 1-1 this season against the Skyhawks. This will be the first ever post season meeting between Stonehill and Adelphi.
The Panthers also bring a nine-game win streak into the NCAA Regional Championship in West Haven, Connecticut and did not drop a set during their three-game run to the Northeast-10 Title. Adelphi also had three players honored for their efforts during the conference tournament, led by Most Outstanding Player of the Championship,
Bianca Hernandez.
Patawe Simms and
Chelsea Overholt were both named to the All-Tournament team for their play over the three games.
