Garden City, N.Y. –
The #1 seeded men's soccer team hosted the #5 NJIT Highlanders in the Atlantic Soccer Conference semifinals earlier tonight. Three first half goals gave the Panthers plenty of breathing room for the remainder of the game as they cruised to victory, 3-0. With the win, the Panthers move their record to 8-9-1 while NJIT drops to 5-12-2.

Omar Edwards got his team going with two first half goals, the first coming in the fourth minute. In an unassisted, successful attempt, he picked up a loose ball in front of the net, whipped around and fired it point blank toward the the target. The ball sailed past a diving Lars Maalen-Johansen for the early 1-0 lead.

Adam Weinzimer then put Adelphi up another goal on a perfectly executed corner in the 26th minute. Teammate Domenico Parrelli set up for the corner and lofted the ball inside the box where Weinzimer headed the ball on just the right angle to catch the back of the right side of the net for a two goal cushion.

The Panthers struck again just a tick before the 35th minute mark when Parrelli squeezed a pass through NJIT's defense to Edwards who broke two defenders and fired a shot off his right foot to find the back of the net and put Adelphi up 3-0 heading into halftime.

The second half would remain scoreless with NJIT stepping up their offense and putting more pressure on the opposite end of the field, but still could not generate many shots or create any opportunities. They came dangerously close to chopping the lead down at the 70th minute mark when Trevor Nye found himself with a clear look on net. However, his shot landed point blank in the arms of keeper Kyle Blackmer, who came in for mainstay Christopher Herrera in the third minute..

The Panthers outshot NJIT a convincing 12-5 but were at a 4-3 corner disadvantage. Blackmer made three saves on the night in the win.

The Panthers wil face #2 Longwood in the ASC Championship game on Sunday, November 13 at noon on Motamed Field.
