New Haven, CT - Earlier today, the women's soccer team took on the Owls of Southern Connecticut State University in a Northeast-10 conference contest. The game saw nearly 76 minutes of scoreless action until the Owls earned the one and only goal needed to seal the deal, serving the Panthers a 1-0 loss. In defeat, the Panthers move to 5-4, 4-4 NE-10 while SCSU advances to 9-1-1, 7-1-1 NE-10.

Both sides played the first half fairly even with Adelphi having a slight advantage in shots, 6-5 and corner opportunities, 3-2. Just a few ticks past the 27 minute mark, a header by Sarah Cote narrowly missed the goal and deflected off the crossbar, holding the game at zero a piece. Less than six minutes later, Kim Volinski came dangerously close to giving her team the lead when she fired a shot that hit the crossbar.

In the second half, Southern Connecticut cranked up their offense and wound up outshooting Adelphi 6-3. At the 75:41 mark, Lisamarie Tarchini picked up a rebound off of a corner and scored the first goal of the game, proving to be the eventual game winner. The Panthers could not get an equalizer and were held shotless in the final 30 minutes as time ran out.

Sam Whitney made six saves in the loss while her counterpar Jacqueline Fede made four stops.

The Panthers return to action on Saturday, September 8 when they host Southern New Hampshire University in a conference contest beginning at 7pm.
