Rindge, NH - The women's soccer team closed out the regular season of their 2011 campaign earlier this afternoon when they took on the Ravens of Franklin Pierce. After a scoreless 100 minutes of play, the game was called due to the increasing snowfall that made the field unplayable. With the draw, Adelphi moves to 8-7-1, 7-7-1 NE-10 while Franklin Pierce's record stands at 6-8-3, 4-8-3 NE-10.
The first half was a very even affair statistically with both teams getting four shots, having one corner kick each, and both goalies tallying two saves a piece. Scoreless through the opening act, it was the Ravens that came out of halftime hungry for the win. They kept Panther keeper,
Sam Whitney very busy between the pipes, totaling seven second half shots on goal our of a total of 11 attempts.
Senior
Kim Volinski had the most opportunities for Adelphi with three shots on goal while
Amber Ingargiola and
Chali Beard each chipped in with one attempt. Neither team was successful in breaking the 0-0 dealock after regulation time, forcing OT. In the ensuing ten minutes, Franklin Pierce poured the pressure on in a string of 90 seconds where they lined up for three corners and got one shot off. Whitney made her last of nine saves, helping her team to hold their ground and made it through the extra 10 minutes of play dead even with their counterparts.
The game would be stopped there due to the downfall of snow resulting in a tie. The Northeast-10 will release the final regular season rankings and announce the schedule for the post season tournament upon the conclusion of all the games later today. As of now, the Panthers sit in the #8 spot and if all else holds, should face #1 Saint Rose.
