The Adelphi University volleyball team closed out their two day, Massachusetts swing on Saturday, October 22 in Wlatham against Bentley University. Adelphi took control in game one of the Northeast-10 contest, 25-16 and then clawed their way past the Falcons, 26-24 and 25-22 to collect the win. With the victory, Adelphi improves to 14-7 overall and 7-3 in NE-10 action, while Bentley falls to 11-12 and 6-5 in conference.
Patawe Simms and
Chelsea Overholt led the Panther attack with 11 and 10 kills each and
Katie Bryson chipped in six to go along with her 32 set assists. Defensively,
Bianca Hernandez led the team with 11 digs and Overhold added nine digs and had a team-high four service aces.
Game one was all Adelphi, as the Panthers came ready to play, jumping out to a 11-3 lead the proved insurmountable, turning into a 25-16 game one victory. Bentley came alive in game two, forcing 17 ties, including four in the final nine points. The game's final tie came off of an Adelphi error that made the score 24-24, however a
Kaitlyn DeStefano kill, put the Panthers ahead one, 25-24 and a strong Overholt effort secured the game for Adelphi, 26-24.
The third game begin much like the second, but with the contest tied at 15 all, the Brown and Gold used a 3-0 spurt to take a 18-15 lead. From there the Panthers would protect the lead, not allowing the Falcons to get any closet then one on the way to the 25-22 game three win.
Adelphi returns to action on Friday, October 28 when they play host to Franklin Pierce at 7:00 pm in the Center for Recreation and Sports.
