Clemson, SC – Earlier today, the Panthers took on the Tigers of Clemson University at Riggs Field for their first meeting since 1990. Adelphi got out to a one goal lead in the first, but Clemson fired back with two unanswered goals in the second, settling the score, 2-1. With the loss, the Panthers drop to 6-7-1, 3-0 ASC while the Tigers move to 5-8.

It was a relatively even and physical affair in the opening act with both teams combining for 15 fouls, having two corner opportunities each, and the Panthers having a one shot advantage, 4-3. The Tigers threatened first at the 18:51 mark when Jack Metcalf sent a header in toward the Panther net, but the attempt was just wide left.

Junior Steve Rivera got the action started at the 25:37 mark when he set up just off center toward the left side and fired a rocket from 25 yards out that caught the inside right post and deflecting into the net for his second goal of the season, putting the Panthers up 1-0.

Just eight minutes into the second half, Bryniar Benediktsson leveled the playing field with his sixth goal of the season, getting help from Austin Savage and Ara Amirkhanian.

Adam Weinzimer had a chance to put his team ahead in the 68th minute when he positioned himself inside the box and picked up a failed Clemson clear attempt, but his shot was stopped by keeper Cody Mizell. Brandon Stoneham, Dan Larenius, Issa Tall and Adrian Sundquist all had looks at the net, but could not connect.

A second before the 72nd minute mark, Ian Smith headed a pass from Jack Metcalf to beat Christopher Herrera, giving Clemson the 2-1 advantage.

The Panthers had a few more opportunities on goal, but were stopped in their tracks, suffering their seventh loss of the season.

The Tigers outshot Adelphi 12-10 but were at a disadvantage in corner opportunities, 4-5. Herrera made four saves on the day while Mizell made seven.

The Panthers return to action on Wednesday, October 26 when they travel upstate to West Point, New York to take on Army. First kick is scheduled for 7 pm.
