The Adelphi University Volleyball team played host to Northeast-10 opponent Merrimack College on Saturday, October 15 in the Center for Recreation and Sports. The Panthers cruised past the Warriors in three straight games, 25-15, 26-24 and 25-18 to secure the victory. With the win Adelphi improved to 13-5 overall and 6-1 in the NE-10, while Merrimack fell to 3-16 and 0-7 in the conference.
Both
Kaitlyn DeStefano and
Haley Blunt had a team-high eight kills, while
Chelsea Overholt added seven and
Erika Loomer collected 22 assists. Defensively, Loomer led the way with nine digs and
Bree Popham chipped in eight.
The first game was all Adelphi, as the Panthers turned a 12-8 lead into a 20-11 bulge thanks to an 8-3 run that became a 25-15 victory. The second game was more of a back and forth affair, with Merrimack taking a late lead, 22-21, before falling, 26-24 on a Blunt kill. The third game saw the Panthers pull away late again, this time turning a 12-10 lead into a 22-15 edge, thanks to a 10-5 run that ended up as a 25-18 Brown and Gold victory.
Adelphi will return to action on Tuesday, October 18 when they travel to New Haven, Connecticut to take on NE-10 rival New Haven at 7:00 pm.
