Garden City, N.Y.
– Earlier today, in front of a Family Weekend crowd, the Panthers took on the Purple Knights of St. Michael's College in a Northeast-10 matchup. After moving out to a one goal lead in the first half, Adelphi tacked on another goal in the second and never looked back, sealing the victory, 2-0. With the win, the Panthers move to 7-5, 6-5 NE-10 while the Purple Knights move to 5-8-1, 4-7-1 NE-10.

Adelphi had an early scoring opportunity in the 11th minute when Emily Masiello, from the left side, centered the ball to Heather Leonhardt who's shot sailed just high of the net. The Panthers had two back to back chances in the middle of the half by Aimee Goldstein and Sarah Cote, but Purple Knight keeper, Brittany Cocozza made two athletic saves to keep the game scoreless.

With time running down in the first 45 minutes of play, Masiello put a dent in the scoring column when she received a pass from teammate Aimee Goldstein. As Saint Michael's keeper came out to intercept the pass, Masiello tapped it up and over as the ball dribbled toward the back of the net to put the Panthers up 1-0.

In the 58th minute, the Panthers struck yet again. Leonhardt centered a pass to Cote and from 10 yards out, shot a low ball that found the left side of the net, further putting Saint Michael's in the hole.

With 15 minutes remaining, Olivia Biron threatened to chop the lead in half when she found an open look at the net, but her attempt did not get past a diving Sam Whitney who just got enough of the ball to squash the threat.

Whitney made three saves on the day while her counterpart also made three.

The Panthers return to action on Tuesday, October 18 when they host the Setters of Pace University in a Northeast-10 conference contest. First kick is scheduled for a 4pm start.
