The Adelphi University volleyball team played host to The University of Massachusetts at Lowell on Friday, October 14 in the Center for Recreation and Sports. The Panthers came out hot and closed the game strong, taking three in a row, 25-12, 25-22 and 25-17 to secure the sweep. With the win Adelphi improves to 12-5 overall and 5-1 in NE-10 play, while UML falls to 9-5 and 5-3 in the conference.

Patawe Simms led the attack with 11 kills and an attack percentage of .435, while Chelsea Overholt chipped in eight kills. Katie Bryson collected a game-high 33 assists and Bianca Hernandez led the team with 19 digs and Overholt added 13.

In game one Adelphi used a 5-1 run to turn a 6-5 lead into a 11-6 bulge on the way to a 25-12 win. The second game was a back and forth contest that saw Adelphi take a 10-4 lead, before UML battled back to pull within one, 21-20 on a Hannah Rey kill. However, the Brown and Gold responded by scoring four of the final five points, including getting kills from Bryson and Simms to take the game, 25-22.

Adelphi took an early lead again in the third game, 8-3 and the Riverhawks clawed their way back into the contest again, taking a 14-13 lead on an Adelphi error. But, the Panthers scored the next five points, including three Haley Blunt kills to take a 18-14 lead that turned into a 25-17 victory.

The Panthers return to action on Saturday, October 15 when they take on Merrimack at 1:00 pm in the Center for Recreation and Sports.
