Kia Wright is entering her first season as an assistant coach for the Panthers. She joins the staff after completing a professional career in Croatia (2011) and Puerto Rico (2009). Wright graduated from St. John's in 2008 and it was recently announced that she will be inducted into the Red Storm Athletic Hall of Fame in 2015.Â
As one of the most decorated players at St. John's, she is described as "an intelligent, court-savvy point guard with tremendous defensive tenacity". A four-time All-Big-East Player, the Copiague, NY native led the league in assists in 05-06 and finished as the fourth all-time leading scorer with 1,536 points. She is also listed fourth on the all-time assist list with 492, making her the only player in St. John's history to score over 1500 points and over 400 assists in a career.Â
Prior to competing at St. John's, Wright committed to playing basketball at the University of Connecticut. She was a four-time First Team All-Long Island player and Suffolk County Player of the Year in 2002. At Copiague High School she led the team to two Long Island Championships and was a part of the team in 2003 that won the first New York State Championship.
