John Horst comes to Adelphi with over 27 years of coaching experience, beginning his career as the boys and girls coach at Seneca Junior High School. He then moved on to Sachem High School where he was an assistant for seven years. His first collegiate experience was at Stony Brook University, where he spent six years as the assistant women's coach with primary responsibilities for pre and post season conditioning, game planning and recruiting, scouting and academic compliance. The team was ranked regionally and nationally during five of those six years while also participating in five post season tournaments including two NCAA appearances.
In addition to coaching basketball, Horst has also coached cross country, track and softball at the junior and high school levels.
A graduate of Middle Tennesse State University, Horst earned a degree in Health, Physical Education and Recreation. He later received his Masters degree from SUNY-Stony Brook with an emphasis in science.
In addition to working with the America East Conference as a basketball officals observer, Horst has taught at Seneca Junior High School for the past 29 years.
Horst resides in Medford, N.Y., with Sally, his wife of 25 years. They have three daughters, Kerri, Katie and Courtney.
