Fran Arato begins his first year as an assistant coach for the Adelphi University women's basketball team. His primary responsibilities include recruiting, scouting and working with the post players and he will also assist with community service and fund-raising efforts.
Arato served as head coach at Dowling from 2002-2006. In his first season he led the Golden Lions to a NCAA Tournament berth, winning the ECC regular season and tournament titles. For his efforts he was named ECC Coach of the Year.
His prior coaching experience includes stints at Hofstra University (1996-97) and Cooper Union College (1994-95). Arato obtained his BS in secondary education from Baylor University in 1990 and a Masters in Education from the University of Incarnate Word in 1993.
He currently works full-time as a Physical Education/Health Teacher at Hampton Bays Secondary School. Arato also served as an assistant coach for the Empire State Games Long Island Open Women's Basketball team in 2006.
