Valmore Holt, Ph.D.

Dr. Valmore Holt, Ph.D., enters his 14th season with Adelphi track and field in the 2024-25 school year. In addition to his tenure with the Panthers, he adds the title of 'Director for Environmental Health and Safety' after being appointed to the position in the fall of 2024.

Since working with the jumpers and hurdlers and dabbling with the sprinters, Holt has made an effort to present the program in a way that is more attractive to local, national and international athletes. The improvement in performances is an outward reflection of the overhaul that has occurred within the team.

The 2024 indoor season saw the Adelphi women’s program place second for the first time since joining the Northeast-10 in 2009-10; as a result, Holt was awarded USTFCCCA Division II Women’s Track and Field East Region Assistant Coach of the Year honor.

Holt has coached athletes to NCAA qualification, All-American status, conference champion, first team and second team conference performers.

He came to Adelphi, after serving as Assistant Coach at nearby Long Island University – CW Post campus where he coached several conference champions in all jump events. He was presented with the USTFCCCA Division II Outdoor Track & Field Women’s Assistant Coach of the Year, Northeast Region award in 2007.

Prior to his stint at CW Post, he served as the Head Cross Country Coach at his alma mater, NYIT, where he was recognized as Coach of the Year while leading the men’s team to a conference championship crown, women’s to runner-up and having NCAA appearances for both programs. While at NYIT, he coached several jumpers to conference championships both indoor and outdoor and saw them earn All-American status.  He was assistant coach when NYIT men’s squad placed second at the NCAA Indoor Track and Field Championship.

As a student athlete, Holt was a multiple Conference Champion in the triple jump and long jump (both indoor and outdoor), and a top-four finisher in the NCAA, successfully earning All-American honors. He also competed for Jamaica in both of his specialties.
