Paula Braband

Paula Braband was named the head coach of the Adelphi University swimming and diving program by Athletic Director Danny McCabe on August 22, 2014.

In Braband’s first season as head coach, the Panthers finished fifth at the 2015 NE-10 Championships thanks to several school-record setting performances. The women’s 800 freestyle relay team, composed of Heather Miller, Danielle Dreiss, Kelly Whelan and Jacqueline Vani, posted a time of 8:12.79, which was just short of five seconds faster than the previous record. Dreiss would go on to establish two more school records at the event, posting a 5:15.92 in the 500 yard free and an 18:13.18 in the 1650 yard free.

Prior to starting at Adelphi, Braband had most recently been working as a teacher and coach at the Island Swim Academy. Since September 2011, she has worked alongside college coaches as well as swimmers from beginner level and up. Additionally, Braband spent time with the Bethpage Junior High School team as well as the Bethpage Barracudes Swim Team.

At LIU Post (formerly C.W. Post), Braband was part of an All-American 200 medley relay squad for the Pioneers. She also helped break and set school and pool records in the 800 freestyle and 200 medley relays. During her high school career at nearby Bethpage, Braband joined her teammates to set a Bethpage High School and Section VIII 200 freestyle relay record. She also qualified for the New York State Swimming Public High School Swimming Championships in three straight years.
