Nick Stanton was hired as an assistant coach for the men’s basketball program by head coach Dave Duke prior to the start of the 2014-15 season and is in his twelfth year in Garden City in 2025-26. Stanton was elevated to the program’s top assistant for the 2018-19 campaign and has served in that role since.
During his tenure at Adelphi, Stanton has been instrumental in helping turn the men’s basketball program around. The Panthers have posted eight winning seasons, compiling a 177-118 (.600) record since the 2015-16 campaign, including a conference championship in 2024-25, and back-to-back NCAA Tournament appearances in 2024-25 and 2025-26. Additionally, Adelphi has finished in the top 5 of the Northeast-10 standings in six of the past seven seasons.
Stanton has spearheaded recruiting efforts since his arrival, helping the program land eight players who have earned all-conference honors in the Northeast-10, including Ronnie Silva, who was voted First Team all-conference in 2020 and 2022, Dayshaun Walton, who was tabbed First Team all-conference in 2024, 2025 and 2026, and Jarnel Rancy, who became the NCAA Division II all-time leader in blocked shots in 2026. Other all-conference honors players have during Stanton’s time at Adelphi include six all-rookie selections, two Rookie of the year selections, two Defensive Player of the Year awards and four all-defensive selections. In addition, players Stanton has recruited have combined to earn five CoSIDA Academic All-American awards, the first such awards in the Men’s Basketball program’s history.
Stanton has served as the program’s “offensive coordinator” since 2018-19 and has helped the Panthers consistently place near the top of the Northeast-10 in points per game and efficiency. The squad has produced the highest field goal percentage in the conference twice in that span, including during the 2023-24 campaign and has placed in the top 3 in that category each of the past four seasons. Four of the top eight scorers in Adelphi history have been recruited and coached by Stanton, including Ronnie Silva, the program’s all-time leading scorer. Silva also finished first all-time at Adelphi and second in conference history in 3-point field goals made. Stanton also recruited and coached Jarnel Rancy, the all-time NCAA Division II shot blocking leader, Conor McGuinness, first on Adelphi’s all-time assists list, and Nick Cambio, who finished his esteemed career in Garden City with the highest field goal percentage of any player in program history.
Stanton serves as the Panthers’ lead advance scout, and in this capacity, breaks down and analyzes video to assist in the development and implementation of scouting reports and game plans. Stanton also assists in the coordination of all off-court logistics including game scheduling, travel, compliance, academics, equipment orders, budgeting and community outreach.
Prior to arriving in Garden City, Stanton spent three years as an assistant varsity basketball coach at Loyola Academy in Wilmette, Illinois from 2011-2014. He served as the scouting and video coordinator and worked with the point guards and wings. The team won 20-plus games back-to-back years, including two straight Chicago Catholic League Championships and a sectional title. Additionally, he took on assigned tasks by the head coach including stat-taking and charting, game and practice planning, filming, recruiting, and organizing summer leagues and camps. During his time in Chicago, Stanton also was an AAU head coach for Full Package Athletics for two years and Fundamental University for one and served as the freshmen basketball coach at Lincoln Park High School during the 2010-11 year.
Stanton graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Journalism and Minor in U.S. History from Northwestern University’s Medill School of Journalism 2009 and attained his Master’s in Sports Management from Adelphi University in 2017.
Originally raised outside of Boston, Stanton currently resides in Rockville Centre, NY with his wife, Sarah and their children, Brian and Sydney.
