James McCullough enters his third season as an assistant coach with the Adelphi University men's basketball team in 2018-19.
McCullough joined Dave Duke's staff from SUNY Martime in the Bronx, where he spent three seasons on the bench as an assistant from from 2013-16. He wasÂ
At SUNY Maritime, McCullough recruited the program's all-time leading scorer (1,532) and rebounder (1,002) in Patrick MacDonald, a three-time Skyline Conference First Team selection and two-time All-Met selection by the Metropolitan Basketball Writers' Association. In addition, he was also responsible for bringing John Licesse to the Bronx, who set the program record for career assists (404) and finished second all time with 1,333 points.
Prior to Maritime, McCullough was a varsity assistant coach at Harborfields High School in Greenlawn, N.Y. and the junior varsity head coach at Locust Valley High School.Â
A certified personal trainer by both the American College of Sports Medicine and the National Academic of Sports Medicine, McCullough is the founder and director of the After School Basketball Academy, where he organizes programs for boys and girls in grades 5-12, the travel basketball director and head coach of the St. Hughes Parish CYO program, and the head coach of the U9-U14Â boys' teams in the Rising Stars AAU club.Â
He has been an independent personal trainer since 2009, and completed a degree in psychology from Adelphi in 2018.Â
