Dominick Savino was named the Head Men's Basketball coach by Assistant Vice President/Director of Athletics Robert E. Hartwell on May 27, 2010 after serving as assistant coach for three seasons. This is his fourth season at the forefront of the men's basketball team.
Savino and the Panthers recorded their fourth consecutive appearance in the Northeast-10 Conference Championship in the 2012-13 season, as they earned the #7 seed. After getting off to a rocky start, the Panthers won eight of ten games midway through the season to turn the year around; this stretch was anchored by a six-win performance in January and vaulted the Panthers back into playoff contention.Â
Savino led the team to its second straight 20-win season in 2012, finishing with a 21-9 overall record. The Panthers advanced to the semifinals of both the Northeast-10 Conference Championship and the NCAA East Regional, falling to Stonehill on both occasions. He also had one NE-10 All-Conference honoree, as well as one All-District and All-Region selection.
In his first season at the helm of the Panthers, Savino helped guide the Panthers to a 20-win season and the program's first Northeast-10 Conference Championship. Savino also led Adelphi back to the NCAA Tournament for the first time since the 2006-07 season. He also had two All-Conference selections in his first year along with two All-Metropolitan picks, two ECAC All-Stars, and one All-Region honoree.
Savino was an Assistant Coach for the Panthers for three seasons from 2007-10. During that time, the Adelphi posted three straight 20+ win seasons. In 2009-2010, the Panthers finished ninth in the Northeast-10 regular season and second in the conference tournament.
His duties consisted of serving as the recruiting coordinator, assisting with practice preparation, game day coaching as well as scouting. He also oversaw pre-season conditioning and weight training.
Savino brings almost 30 years of coaching experience as he assumes the Head Coach position. He spent 27 years at the high school level. He also had a one year stint as an associate head coach at Dowling College in 2005-06.
He has received numerous accolades, including being named Coach of the Year five times and earning Long Island Coach of the Year in 1991. He also captured An Eastern New York Championship in 1987 and helped Sachem to two Class A Final Four's.
Savino earned a BS from Southern Connecticut State University and a MALS degree from Stony Brook.
Savino resides in Miller Place, New York.
