Scott W. Allen is entering his second year as head golf coach at Adelphi University. Allen has a successful track record at the collegiate level, as evidenced by his accomplishments at Manhattanville, Seton Hall and Adelphi.
In Allen's first season, he returned the Adelphi men's golf program to the NCAA Super Regional as the Panthers qualified an individual. It was the university's first NCAA appearance in men's golf since 2003.
Adelphi had three top-five finishes and seven top-ten showings in 16 tournaments during the 2006-07 season, highlighted by back-to-back runner-up finishes at the Long Island Intercollegiate Championship and the East Coast Conference championship. The Panthers finished with a #12 ranking in the Northeast Region, an improvement of 15 spots over their ranking in 2005-06.
Adelphi maintained a 317.65 average aggregate for 16 events and 26 rounds, a 34-stroke improvement from 2005-06. The Panthers cracked the 300 barrier twice and finished with the highest-ranked strength of schedule index in the Northeast for 2006-07.
Before coming to Adelphi, Allen started the men's golf program at Manhattanville College (NY) in 1999. There, he led the Valiant's to three Skyline Conference championships (2001, 2002 & 2004) and five tournament titles overall. He also qualified Manhattanville for four ECAC Championships (1999, 2001, 2002 & 2004) and the NCAA Northeast Regional (2003).
Allen served as Head golf coach at Seton Hall University in 2003-04, where he taught Freshman English. He also led the Pirates to the Mt. St. Mary's (MD) Invitational title in 2004, and four top-ten finishes. The Mt. St. Mary's title was Seton Hall's first tournament win in four years.
Prior to his college experience, Allen taught English, Special Education, and English-As-A-Second Language on the high school level for a dozen years in New York City and Westchester (NY).
In nine seasons as a high school coach, Allen compiled a 71-33-1 (.768) record and coached The Hackley School (NY) to the New York state high school championship in 1999.
Before Hackley, Allen coached James Monroe High School in the Bronx (NY) to PSAL play-off appearances in 1989 and 1990 and to the Bronx "A" golf championship in 1990. The title is the only golf title won in the school's 80-year history. Allen also served as a voting member of the PSAL Rules and Eligibility Committee, proposing and drafting legislation enacted by the PSAL in 1988 that broadened eligibility standards for special education students.
Allen is a resident of West Harrison (NY) and an alumnus of both the University of Oregon (BA, '84) and Manhattanville College (MAT, '94).
