Biography

Michael Gavagan is entering his eighth year as the Head Athletic Trainer at Adelphi University, a position he has held since August of 2003. In addition he is an adjunct professor and a clinical instructor at Adelphi University. A 2001 graduate of Hofstra University, Gavagan earned his bachelors degree in athletic training. He then continued his education at Adelphi University where he was awarded a masters in health education in 2003. During that time Gavagan was also a graduate assistant in the Athletic Training Department with his primary sports being volleyball, men and women[apos]s basketball and baseball. In January of 2003 Gavagan was elevated to Assistant Athletic Trainer and started assisting with the management of the athletic training room and diagnosing injuries and developing rehabilitation programs. In August of 2003 he was promoted again to his current position of Head Athletic Trainer and took on additional responsibilities overseeing the entire Athletic Trainig Department, purchasing, budgeting and organizing insurance claims, physical clinics, doctoral care and drug testing. Gavagan is also a Clinical Instructor at Adelphi, supervising and mentoring athletic training students from Hofstra University. He has also been an adjunct member of the Adelphi University facaulty since the fall of 2003, teaching courses in both basic and advanced athletic training techniques. Gavagan currently handles all training responsibilities for the men[apos]s soccer team as well as the women[apos]s lacrosse team and is a member of the National Athletic Trainers Association.
