Biography

Georgette Brown is entering her fourth year at Adelphi University. in 2010, she was promoted from Events Manager and Special Events Coordinator to Assistant Athletic Director. Her duties include game day operation of all Adelphi[apos]s intercollegiate sporting events and managing the event staff and revenue generating areas. Prior to her appointment, Brown served as a Graduate Assistant in the Event Management Office. In that capacity, she worked closely with Deneé Rivera, former Events Coordinator and current Assistant AD and SWA, on special events. This included the annual Golf Outing, Midnight Madness, Student-Athlete Orientation, Athletic Open Houses, Homecoming to name a few. She will continue to work on these events and will also serve as Co-Advisor to the Student Athlete Advisory Committee (S.A.A.C.). Brown is on the board of the Janet L. Ficke Golf Classic committee and also finds time to be advisor to the Latino Student United (LSU) organization on campus. Before coming to Adelphi, Brown interned and worked in the music industry at labels such as Island Def Jam and Sony BMG Music Entertainment as a marketing and promotions coordinator. Brown obtained her masters degree in Sports Management from Adelphi University in 2006 and completed her bachelor[apos]s degree in Marketing from Syracuse University in 2003. While at Syracuse, she organized donation set ups for the March of Dimes organization. This is a cause of personal importance and she remains a volunteer as well as helping with AIDSWalk New York. Brown was one of the original members of DIMENSIONS, an organization which creates an environment where women of color can support each other, engage in dialogue on issues pertinent to women of color; and acquire leadership and professional development skills. She continues to serve as a mentor to DIMENSIONS.
